Minutes of Baldwin Hills ARC Meeting 2/4/98

The first 1998 meeting of the Baldwin Hills Amateur Radio Club was called to order by the President, Greg, KD6AIS, at 7:54 PM on February 4, 1998. Also in attendance were Hugh, NV6H, the Secretary, and David, N6HGJ, our valued Membership Chairman/ Treasurer.

I. Old Business

  1. The Secretary read the minutes for December, 1997, there having been no January, 1998 meeting due to CES. They were approved without correction.
  2. The Treasurer gave the Club's bank balance as $577.27, not counting several dues payments. The Christmas party is completely paid for. Dues renewal notices have gone out.
  3. The President re-opened the ongoing question of whether we could save money looking for a cheaper meeting room. He has information from Ed Walker, the Chairman of the Board, that one room is only $10 or $15 a month, which would be a considerable saving. Since Ed was not present, the matter is continued to March, as is the Community Events Raffle.
  4. Club elections were held. The President opened nominations one last time, and Ed, KD6LT, was nominated for the vacant office of President. This was seconded, and the nominations were closed, forever and ever, Amen. Since we had no contested elections, all candidates were declared elected, and began their terms at close of this meeting. President is Ed, KD6LT, VP is Dieter, KD6LVW, Secretary is Hugh (yours truly), NV6H, and once again David is Membership Treasurer, probably for the rest of his natural born days. Your old officers congratulate your new officers.
  5. The outgoing President noted a new trend in commercial radio, which is that Nextel is buying up a lot of mom 'n' pop business repeaters and putting them into more expensive, and profitable, cellular service. The users get fancy new radios, really almost cell-phones, with a lot of bells 'n' whistles, but they also get stiff price increases. This happened to Greg's work group. Oof.
  6. The incoming President, who was still LAACARC (Los Angeles Area Council of Amateur Radio Clubs) rep, commented on the then-recent meeting. The Queen Mary convention is still not official. The UNCF Walk-A-Thon is May 16, and this year BARC will participate. 13 hams are needed.

II. New Business

  1. There was no new business. The outgoing President thanked everyone for their support over the past two years. (Applause.) He then thanked Samir for the typically awesome refreshments.

With this, we adjourned at 8:30 PM, until March 4, 1998.
